The Opportunity

The Senior Software & AI Engineer position works onsite in Sylmar, California within Abbott's Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) business.

As a global leader in Cardiac Rhythm Technologies, we focus on innovative technologies that can improve the way doctors treat people with heart arrhythmias or irregular heartbeats.

In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, and deployment of regulated medical software, with a focus on cloud-based processing and artificial intelligence solutions that support clinical decision-making using data from Abbott implantable medical devices.

What You'll Work On

  • Architect, design, develop, and test highly scalable software systems that support critical clinical decision-making.
  • Build, deploy, and manage cloud infrastructure within the Microsoft Azure environment.
  • Develop and maintain data engineering pipelines to support AI model training and validation.
  • Integrate AI and machine learning models into production-grade software applications.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to deliver compliant, high-quality software solutions for regulated medical devices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related science or engineering discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with software development and coding.
  • Experience using AI tools and technologies while maintaining ownership and accountability for outcomes.
  • Strong commitment to continuous learning and growth in software engineering and architecture.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Has a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related science or engineering discipline
  • Has spent a few years doing hands-on code development
  • Knows how to use AI as part of your job, but can own the results
  • Is continuously learning how to be a better software engineer and architect
  • Is open to using new programming languages and tools
  • Wants to proactively learn the clinical domain, not just the software domain
  • Thrives when requirements are ambiguous, and wants to help design solutions
  • Has opinions about proper software design and architecture, but is willing to listen to others
  • Can explain your thinking clearly, both verbally and in writing

What We Are Not Looking For:

We don’t expect you to:

  • Have 10+ years of experience using some technology that didn’t even exist until 5 years ago.
  • Have 5+ years of experience using some technology that any competent engineer could learn in a month.
  • Be able to grind out irrelevant LeetCode problems on a whiteboard when you’re nervous and under considerable time pressure.
